TD, welcome to the forums!

I had the same problem after I stopped using AOL...
I had to start/settings/control panel/add-remove programs and delete it
you can check your Task Manager and stop the process.
this is just my experience!
others will advise you soon...

good luck!

Thanks cojo,

I removed AOL a while back but it keeps popping up. I am thinking it may be associated with some other program I am running.

I use Yahoo Messenger and maybe it is sneaking back in through that but I am just geussing there.

are you using icq or aol messenger?..or any other aol-related programs?

maybe try to run msconfig and see what's there in your startup?

There's a thought -- ICQ's cleaned up their act lately, but the first few versions after AOL took them over would load your system down with all kinds of AOL garbage - Start-menu, favorites, "related links", you name it.  So if you've got ICQ or AIM, especially a slightly older version of the former, they're highly suspect.

TD,

AOL puts a few different "processes" on your computer.  Among them...
One is for the application itself.
A second is for the Systray icon.
A third is used for the "onshutdown" updates.....The little box that says AOL is updating files before shutting down.

The icon acts as a "process" and will run until it is removed as you now know.

If you look at the System Startup on a computer using AOL, you will be amazed at what runs.

Good luck,
Techie

And CoJo, they are probably also the instigators of the lawsuit against Microsoft for including a free browser with their operating system.
