Web shield process issue
« on: March 14, 2009, 08:46:24 AM »
Dont know if this ones an old one but really need help. Each time I start my computer webshield starts right? but the problem is that it keeps "starting" itself. at first it was just one process but then it multiplied to two or three and up to date went 8 process, really hogged memory til the comp crashed. Using process guard to counter this but would like to know a solution.

Go to Add-Remove programs, select avast! and click Uninstall. New dialog will appear. Select REPAIR option there (you may need to scroll the list down). After repair, restart your computer and check if Web SHield process is getting respawned over and over again.

Please provide also more details.
What operating system?
What exact version of avast?
Did you or do you have other antivirus installed? If so, which one?

Using WinXP professional editon SP3.
Avast! 4.8 home edition.
No other antivirus that i am aware of.

@rejZoR

What changed in that month? Installed new applications/updates? Changed system settings?

I use bittorrent if that helps..... And my internet is wireless too.
install like one to five programs a month. Btw I reseted today and this time now that has become ineffective. Resetting is useless now... I am using process guard to counter this issue but most of the time that program too has issues.... My anti tools: avast home edition 4.8, Spybot seach and destroy, spyware blaster, comodo firewall (not pro), and soon comcast antispy (part of the toolbar).

Not enough protection? Or is it the bittorrent? I really need some help! AshWebSv.exe is literally crashing my computer each startup when process guard isn't working! (I get the horrid BSOD)

Remove avast (control panel > software), reboot. Run aswclear, reboot. Download and install avast again. Let's see if that helps.
