Scandoo and Google...
« on: March 26, 2009, 02:46:04 PM »
This combination, using Firefox, was working fine yesterday but this morning I keep getting an error as follows:

"We're sorry...

... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.

If you're continually receiving this error, you may be able to resolve the problem by deleting your Google cookie and revisiting Google. For browser-specific instructions, please consult your browser's online support center.

If your entire network is affected, more information is available in the Google Web Search Help Center.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google. "

I've tried this on two different computers, one of which hasn't been used online since Sunday before I did thorough scans with MBAM, SAS and Avast!...

I thought it was Google at first but since Google searches run fine in IE, I think I've narrowed it down to Scandoo...  I'd love to remove Scandoo on this Windows Me computer to test my theory but can't find any instructions for doing so...

Any thoughts, theories or help would be appreciated...  :)

I don't get it. Scandoo is just a website, right?  I don't see how you would "remove it" from your computer.  Just don't do searches on it?

Unless there is a toolbar that you are using.  In which case that should be simple to remove, but you'll have to tell me what browser you want it removed from so that I can help further.

I'm not actually sure exactly what it is...  I found a page that does give instructions how to remove it but can't locate it again...  It's kinda hard to do Google searches with Firefox when this is installed...

There's no toolbar involved...  And as I initially; I'm using Firefox...

Well, by looking at the Scandoo's website, they only have a Search Plugin for firefox.  So, instead of using the little search bar at the top, just go to google.com directly and type your search there on google's webpage.

As for removing that as your default search plugin, try this: http://www.firefoxfacts.com/2008/01/13/change-default-search-in-firefox/

They now have a version of Scandoo for IE7...  They also have instructions for its removal from IE7...  Since I don't have Scandoo installed in IE; it's a moot point...

I'll check out that link and let you know what I discover...  Thanks.

What I meant was that they didn't have a toolbar for Firefox, only the search plugin.

The problem is not with ScanDoo but with Google. Give it a little time and it will go away.

Well, I do a lot of searching on Google, and I have never seen this message.

I was starting to think that every search from scandoo was coming from 1 IP address (Scandoo's servers) and that was causing way too much traffic from one IP, so Google was blocking it.

Who knows.

@scythe944; thanks for your clarification...

@CharleyO; I'll do that and see what happens...  Glad I've also got WOT installed...

For the record; there should be a way to remove Scandoo from Firefox and I will continue to see if I can find a way to do that...  Not that I'm going to remove it anytime soon but just to know there is a way...

Hi scythe944,

Yes, some time ago, there was a thread on the forum about this same problem. It happened to several members here and I have had it happen to me though not lately.

Thanks for the info CharleyO.  As far as I knew, the only problem with google was that it was reporting that site's were infected with malware for a day or so, but that was it.

I'll keep this info in the back of my head for the future!

The message comes directly from Google.
Rephrasing  your search might help.
