New virus pop ups and webpage blocks
« on: April 02, 2009, 03:52:45 AM »
Here is the info on our virus not detected or removed by any tools so far(microsoft norton mcafee avast and other free ones).  Here are the symptons:  It is almost imposible to do anything on ie7 ie8 or firefox (no browser's will work like they should.  After repeated attemps you might get lucky and get to a website (does matter where you are trying to go).  Lots and lots of popups never clicked on any never know where they realy take you too im running 2 pop-up blockers we no luck(yahoo and microsofts).  It took8 tries to get my email page up to register and another 10 or so to get the email up and several more to get to the forums.  I know the connection is fine because games not browser works fine.  The entire computer is up to date: Windows xp64 sp2 java just updated and so did adobe.  Today avast found 2 virus win32:trojan gen one is in the system restore tried turning off the restore to fix the problem but the links on the website is down or gone maybe its the virus idk.  the other one is in syswow64 directory no file listed.  when we run the cleaners files that where unable to scan included many temp files and an adobe txt file(unable to delete said unable to perform opperation or file in use)  I also tried scanning and deleting thoes file with no luck in safe mode.  this virus first started showing signs on March 30 2009.  I dont think it is conflicker because after som time I can pull up all the anti virus websites.  Oddly this virus is not using much processer speed but it is using a lot of physical memory I do have a large amount of memory so that was unnoticed for me.  After 6 tries of the spell checker im throwig in the towel please ignore all errors :P any and all help successful or not would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest:

1. Clean your temporary files.
2. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
3. Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
5. Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
6. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
7. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
8. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
The best things in life are free.

The boot-time scan only works on 32bit OSes.

I don't see anything obvious in your HJT log.

You don't appear to have an active firewall - It should be capable of blocking unauthorised outbound Internet Connections. - What is your firewall ?

That is me for the night, just after 1:30 am here.

currently using the one from microsoft... in truth i have nto shopped around for a new one that works with xp64.  I would love any and all suggestions because on my last reboot I noticed the windows security error about the firewall so when I pulled it up it said it was running... idk so please suggest a few for me years ago i used zonealarm not sure if they still exist or if it is anygood or not now and thanks for that post I probably would not have noticed the problem.
