I've just spend the weekend fighting with this combination.  It has resulted with me uninstalling ZoneAlarm Free as Avast was installed first and had been running great.  There is some conflict somewhere that I have been unable to fully pin down between Avast and ZA even with the help of the knowledgebase and forums of both utilities.

The problem only seems to be related to web traffic.  Web traffic stops flowing after a period of time or a usage amount.  Disabling the web shield seems to due the trick to keep traffic flowing, but that's not a workaround I want to keep using.

I'm curious if anybody else is running the same environment and seeing the same problem.  I'm also curious if Avast as done much testing in the lab with the 64-bit version of ZA as it has only been out a month or two.  I've already seen that ZA doesn't seem to be much help in resolving issues between both programs.

Are you /Have you been sure that it is/was the Free Version of ZoneAlarm?
Or can it be that you use/used the trial of the Pro (which later automatically becomes the Free one)?

ZoneAlarm Free all the way.  I have never installed the Pro version.  It's also why I specifically included 'Free' in the subject.

In fact, the trial version is always installed, afik, so you had the Pro version during the trial period.

I understand, but usually when you install the "Free" edition of ZA you automatically get the "Pro" for the first 15 days or so and then it switches to the real "Free"...
but I didn't use ZA for a long time... probably this has changed...  :-\
(EDIT: Tech was faster :) )

for the Pro there is an additional entry in the avast4.ini-file...

(nicely summarized by Tech)

but if it wasn't the pro i can't help you any further... sorry...

Again, I never installed the trial and the trial is only installed if you leave all the default options checked.  You can choose between the trial or the free version.  I have always and will always select the free version.  Also, there was no "Privacy Control" section active on any pane of the ZA config window.  I did not install the Pro version.  Regardless, I looked at and followed the information at both of provided links.  The only effect the recommendations had was to lengthen the amount of time before web traffic would stop flowing.

Sometimes, deleting all entries into ZA settings, booting, allowing them after works... Sometimes, ZA glitches make this...
