After a Virus Threat activation avast not working properly

Yesterday I tried opening an internet page and got a Virus Warning. Avast prompted me to end internet connection and I did. I immediately ran a scan to find any viruses. Avast did find one I ordered it to delete the files and it continued to scan but later on stopped responding. I tried to schedule a boot time scan to properly scan for threats but I am now unable to do so. I tried doing it via a prompt command but to no avail. I have Avast Pro edition and Window Vista Home Premium.

Are you using Vista 32bits or 64bits?
If you end the connection on Webshield, nothing was saved in your computer and it is clean.
What was the error message while you've tried to scan?

64 bit

Boot time scanning is not available for 64bits, yet.
But you could run a full avast scanning (archive included) to be sure you're clean.

ah ok, what scared me was the program malfunctioning during the scan after it found a virus. maybe the files I ordered deleted provoked the instability, I have done 2 more full scans and no further warnings.
