avast and email
« on: May 09, 2004, 12:22:54 PM »
Hello all,

I would like to say that when I first loaded Avast on my puter this eve, I was very impressed with it.

However, I wanted it mainly to scan my emails.  I loaded the program, and left the icon to sit peacefully beside my computer clock.

Then I tried to send an email!!!! I don't know what was going on, but it wouldn't let me send!  I could recieve fine, but I couldn't send.  The bar (I use OE) would fill a 1/4 of the way then stop, and it would time out.  When the error message came up, it would say that it couldn't find a connection and that avast account was the error.  I turned off all the servers and it still didn't work.

Then when I removed Avast from my system, my email suddenly began asking me to logon!  I had to phone my provider to get the password reset!

I would like to use Avast, but.....I'm a little annoyed about the hassle.

Could anyone council me?

Taboo,

It is my guess from your description, that you did not configure the SMTP protocol correctly in Avast.

Run the Mail Protection Wizard which you will find in the Start/Programs/Avast folder.

This should take care of your problem and access.
