Hi there!
Can anyone help me with my problem?
I have Avast Version 4.8 which I installed after reformatting my Laptop computer.
An error occured after I installed Avast. "RPC error"
My OS is WinXP Pro & WinXP Home. Actually I have 2 Laptop that experience the same problem.
I would be very much thankful if you could help me with this...

Hi airnest1221!

Do you use any other security software? (antivirus, firewall, antispyware)
Did you use any antivirus before avast?
If yes, which ones and how did you remove them?

Hi onlysome1

I think I use Macafee before but I think it's fully removed now since I reformat drive C.  dont use any other anti-virus now except Avast 4.8
My computer status now is that, I cant install Avast anymore due to RPC error.
I think my last option now is to reformat the whole hard drive then fresh install of avast. I haven't tried yet but I think it's the best solution for this since I suspected that there are virus hiding in my Drive D:\
I will give feedback soon as I finished reformatting. Thanks for the reply man/girl...

I think you would not need to re-format your windows, it just would be ok if you remove anything that remian from McAfee by using McAfee Removal Tools.

Step 1 - Uninstall your McAfee consumer products using Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel
Windows 2000/XP

   1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
   2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
   3. Select the McAfee SecurityCenter product.
   4. Click Remove and follow the steps provided.

Windows Vista

   1. Click Start, Search, type Programs and Features, and click Go.
   2. Double-click Programs and Features.
   3. Select the McAfee SecurityCenter product.
   4. Click Uninstall and follow the steps provided.

Step 2 - Download and run MCPR.exe

   1. Download the removal tool from:

      http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

   2. Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
   3. Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.
   4. Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.
   5. Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool.

Note: Windows Vista users must right-click MCPR.exe and select Run as Administrator.

   6. Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful.

Your McAfee product will not be fully removed until the system is restarted.

and now just go to uninstall avast! from add/remove program, reboot your computer and then install avast! again, all problem should be gone

Hello there! I just reformatted my PC last week. Avast anti-virus seems to be ok(no more problem I thought) last week until I encountered this problem "RPC error" again this morning when I was currently downloading Adobe Reader 7.0 from the www.brothersoft.com
I dont think macafee is interferring with my avast because I fully reformatted my Pc. This problem drive me crazy again for the second time around. My OS is Windows XP(pirated)

hey!! too bad!!

1. Borthersoft is not a good source for download, since adobe reader is free download it from original site www.adobe.com and latest version is 9.1
also I offer you to try Foxit reader, the full version (paid!) would offer you many good options too :)

2. Are you sure your windows has not any problem? there are many junk stuff in pirated sites, it would be much better if you use a Windows XP Service Pack 3 from a trusted source.

Did you follow my link in post #2 ?
