I have what's called a wikispace, basically your own website. I made a page for downloads. the link is http://specialops.wikispaces.com/Downloads . So any suggestions. And also tell me what programs would conflict with each other except anti viruses.

Well, the three you have there now should work great together!  Avast, MBAM, and Ad-Aware.

However, as you may have seen elsewhere on the forum, Ad-Aware is aging in it's techniques, and Superantispyware would be a better alternative.

Personally, I just use Avast, MBAM, and Spybot (only for passive protections), but then again that's just my personal opinion.  Everyone has their own favorite programs.

Spywareblaster is a great little program,  It helps protect against Spyware and uses no resources. I've never seen it conflict with anything as it doesn't run in the background.

I'm using Windows Defender with Avast with no problems on Vista and Windows 7.

No, windows defender doesn't (usually) conflict with avast. It's mostly a malware removal program, and doesn't run constantly.

As for spyware blaster, some people recommend it, I believe YoKenny uses it.  It shouldn't conflict either.

They should be fine to run with avast.

However, since these programs are updated frequently, you might just include links to the websites on your site, instead of the actual exe's, because you'll have to update them all the time.

*Sorry Marc, I tried to reply right before you*

I understand that, but they often use MANY mirrors for downloads, and since the programs are updated often, they might not be the "latest and greatest" links.  I'm not saying that what you are doing is wrong, I was just saying that there are usually a LOT of links (all the different mirror servers that CNET and others use) and whenever the program gets updated, they usually use a different link, which means you'll always have to keep updating your links.

Since that happens, that's why I said that it might be better to just suggest the programs on your site, and link to the actual software vendor's site, so that users can get the most updated link from them, so you won't have to do the work.

What I'm saying is that you put whatever Avast put on their website.  Use a link to Avast's website itself, and include instructions to your users to "click the download avast home free edition" or whatever instead.

As I said, the link that avast uses to download the newest version will change over time.  Therefore, your links may become out of date, without you're knowing.

For example, instead of this: http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3000-2239_4-10019223&ontId=2239_4&spi=430f7c2d1232451c6919bb60f741c956&lop=link&tag=tdw_dltext&ltype=dl_dlnow&pid=11020373&mfgId=85737&merId=85737&pguid=7Hhy3goPjF0AAFkJbmoAAAAE&destUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fdownload.cnet.com%2F3001-2239_4-10019223.html%3Fspi%3D430f7c2d1232451c6919bb60f741c956%26part%3Ddl-AvastHome
(this is known as a "directlink" or "hot-linking")
Try, this:

Download avast Free from Avast's website, located here: http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html  (Be sure to click the link for Avast FREE Home edition!)

That way, if they change their link, you don't have to change it on your website...

Sure.

Like I said, there's no problem with what you're doing, it just may cause you more work than you want.  I'm just trying to help you out with "administrative headaches."

I hope I helped.

Hi John -

There are a few posts on this forum where someone downloaded avast from cnet and had problems. It is then that the poster is advised to download avast straight from the avast website. If visitors to your web page have similar problems with bad links, you will soon find that not many will visit your web page.

As scythe is trying to point out, it would be best to link directly to the product website download page.
