When I rightclick on AVAST icon and then click on !AVAST update, nothing happens.

Welcome to the forum.  Could you help us out a bit by including some more information?

Did you have an Anti-virus installed on your computer before you installed avast?

What Operating System are you running?

By the way, I just installed Avast Home edition on Monday.  Up until today, when I clicked on AVAST update I would aways see the latest version.

To answer you question.  I had AVG Free Anti-virus before, which I successfully uninstalled, before installing AVAST.

I run Windows 98 Second Edition.

Did you use the AVG removal tool to uninstall?

It's weird that it worked for a bit, then stopped.

You might try a repair of avast.

Since fdbetts is using Windows 98 Second Edition, he can't use AVG8 or later and as such the AVG Uninstall tool won't work as he didn't have AVG8.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes... I didn't know.  It's been too long since I've had a 98 box to work on.

Me too about 6 years, but I just remember one of the reasons why many AVG users are heading to avast is AVG no longer supporting win9x and winME in AVG8 and that the uninstall tool doesn't work on the old versions.
