Same thing, albeit the setup log appears to be shorter :-(
I followed all instructions, but would like to mention that that I went to Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs and Avast was not there. I just looked again after trying to install from the avast site and again it is not there. So I now assume there is nothing to uninstall as it does not appear that it is installing in the first place.
I have the avast_home_setup icon on my desktop, but the same thing happens. I open it...click next "Downloading Packages" "Downloading file: setupeng.exe"...starts downloading and about 35% through, I get the message "There was an error while completing the setup process" "View setup log".

I wonder if I should go back and burn a disc using the avast site.
