On-Access Protection Not Working
« on: May 12, 2009, 12:23:19 AM »
On May 11, 2009, I installed Avast! Home Edition.  However, the On-Access Protection is not working, and I have not been able to get it to start.  There are two log messages.  In ERROR.LOG, the message is "AAVM - Initialization error: AavmStart: avworkInitialize failed, 0000007B".  In WARNING.LOG, the message is "AavmStart Error ...".

What should I do?

My system is running Windows 98se, and has 128 mb of RAM.  I had been using AVG 7.5 Antivirus until AVG stopped supporting it.  I uninstalled AVG 7.5 and then rebooted before installing Avast!.

Try AVG Remover download here: http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-tools
Then I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot.
3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode
and doing it from there.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the latest avast!
version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.

I tried the Control Panel Repair operation suggested in some other posts, and it worked.  On-Access protection is now working as it should.

Thanks for your help.
