Did you have any other antivirus software installed before avast?

What version do you have of avast?

You don't by any chance have a habit of emptying your prefetch folder, do it?

Or, are you ever getting an "Auto Complete" error window at other times?

I have avast 4.8, and the the last antivirus I had was trend micro or zone alarm which I dont have anymore. I dont know what a prefetch folder is and no errors.

Dear Pega28,

I think you are facing the same problem, as it was with me.

If your problem is that on clicking avast! anti virus, the user interface of avast! anti virus doesn't appear, and if u click again, it appears, then kindly visit the below mentioned thread, and read the posts of DavidR, he has provided the solution for this problem:

If your problem is not the one mentioned above, then wait for some expert opinion.

I found a quick fix, I am not sure it will last but so far so good, I let it do its memory check then twice, then I went into the menu and unchecked and rechecked the memory test box, and so far now its opening after the memory test now. Thanks for all the advice.

That's mighty interesting and if the problem returns it may just be the indicator you need to troubleshoot. It shuts down after the first memory test, right? Or was. Yep, that's interesting. I'll log that into my memory and hope it doesn't self-delete in a year or so.
