Episode #195  The SSL/TLS Protocol

Leo and I plow into the detailed operation of the Internet's most-used security protocol, originally called "SSL" and now evolved into "TLS." The security of this crucial protocol protects all of our online logins, financial transactions, and pretty much everything else.

Not with a lot of time to follow the details, but are they just saying that TSL is better than SSL?

I haven't had time to listen to it yet.

TSL is the follow on to SSL:

I was just curious about the protocol as my ISP imlemented it for email transfer and when they did my email stopped and I had to have my ISP walk me through setting up the correct ports and server names and I had to make sure that avast! Internet Mail did not use the TSL/SSL ports but the standard ports.

I think this will be available in avast! V5 I believe.

As I understood Gibson, he was to talk about the RFC for the new standard TLS 1.2.

But he went back to SSL2 which is outdated, SSL3/TLS1 which took over and told how much better
the TLS1.2 would be. That part went over my head.

Interesting to learn that SSL2 dates back to 1995 and SSL3/TLS1 dates back to 1997.
12 years old technology still in use to secure our data. Fingers crossed...
