VPS database update error
« on: May 19, 2009, 03:30:58 PM »
My VPS database has not been updated since January 09. Each time I turn the computer on it tells me to update it. I try downloading it but I get this error message: Can't install VPS update. Please report following error codes: Ver: 4.8.1296 / SI:0x00000002 / ST:0xFFFFFFFF / LE: 0x00000000
I have the home version and don't understand what this is saying. I turned off my firewall and tried again but got the same message. Can someone help me to get the database updated? Thanks

  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Hi marjie465, welcome to the forum.
Can you advise your program version? (current is 4.8.1335.)
Check your computer time and date.

Those are two common causes, in the absence of firewall issues.
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.

First your program is out of date too (the error displays the current program version), latest version is 4.8.1335, no point in trying to troubleshoot an old program version.

I would suggest a clean install:
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.
  • 1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
  • 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot.  If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  • 3. install the latest version, reboot.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Also, try to open avast settings - Update (Connections), press Proxy button, and select Direct connection, press OK to confirm. Then try to start iAVS update manually again.
