My PC is a disaster... 6885 MBs left...
« on: May 25, 2009, 02:13:17 AM »
...PC takes about three minutes to boot...tryed removing some from msconfig...
...PC drained from Microsoft...Over 10000 MBs wasted by them...that are not needed...
...PC only has 6885 MBs Left...including the C:/, D:/ and G:/ Drives...

Solutions That I Thought Of:
Put Microsoft stuff on a huge jumpdrive. (I wonder how mutch I will need and how mutch that would cost...)
Disable Everything that is not nessary at startup. (I don't know what is nessary and not nessary...)

Help "WITHOUT" reinstalling Windows would help.

First turn off Indexing as that really slows down the system.

Get TreeSize Free:
http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml

With all the stuff I have on my XP Pro system I still have 26GB free.

Hi Donovansrb10,

I would suggest some basic steps if you haven't already done them:

- Uninstall all programs from the add/remove programs list (in the control panel)
- And I mean all unnecessary programs!!!
- Download CCleaner and delete all temporary files and data not required
- Unfortunately Micro$oft leaves a litany of bollocks files which you don't need
- Consider burning all your photographs and vidoes onto a DVD or CD
- Do a thorough scan of your computer with Avast, MBAM and SAS
- Sometimes malware and spyware can siginificantly slow your system down

And finally ask some of the REAL experts like Polonus, Tech, DavidR or Bob for some advice.

I am sure they will be able to assist you further.

Good luck!

You can thin down Windows OS in Add/Remove Windows components in Add/Remove Progams if you havent already been there.

-= Try TuneUp Utilities, its a pay to upgrade type software so I believe, you may be able to use the startup manager even without a license.. The startup manager has a detailed info about the necessary, optional & useless startup entries..

I also find that the boot up and login time is painfully long on my machine (Although I know this a problem with not enough RAM)

I get around this by hibernating instead of shutting down. This means that when I turn on the pc I can use it almost straight away instead of waiting ages for it to be ready.

I also use as many programs as possible portably (running from a memory stick)
This means I don't have to install them locally and they are usually faster (don't really know why)
For example:
I can load Firefox portable from a memory stick and have it running LONG before the IE window appears

@YoKenny: Its running now.

@Avastfan1: I'll try uninstalling all the Microsoft .NET Frameworks and the Microsoft Office Enterprize 2007 & then redownloading them to my 20GB jumpdrive I got.

@Mkis: I been there but I want so many programs, I'll try removing & downloading to my 20GB jumpdrive.

@chronoboi001: I'm already had it & my free trail about to expire.

@spg SCOTT: I'll try hibernating.

After I followed the instructions on how to sucessfully install the jumpdrive, it won't work.

Video made so you can see the error I get: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8pHJ8FYhog

@Avastfan1
You need Nobel Prize winner grasp of rocket science to mess with .NET Frameworks.
But if thats what you want, you will need refer to MS knowledge base articles.

MS Enterprise 2007 is a monster program, even with just the Office 2007 suite.
You could start working with a larger HDD (160GB or least 80GB) since you want so much onboard.
Otherwise virus play havoc if onboard.

Where possible, I keep software on removable media unless terrible need to run.

I have 29MBs left on my 20GB jumpdrive now. I guess I need to buy a better jumpdrive or even a hardrive that has at least 480GBs. But eh, at least I saved about 5.34GBs on the C:\ Drive!

Wonder how much the hardrive or jumpdrive would cost. O_O

7.5TB LaCie 5big Network 5-BAY RAID | Gigabit Ethernet (RECON) ~ $1,070.00

I don't think I can afford that...
