Absolute AVG 8.5 FREE Removal Sequence?
« on: May 21, 2009, 05:42:28 AM »
Along with that Dell Monitor, which I mentioned earlier that I was given, I was also given an old HP Pavilion computer.  I'll be messing with it on Saturday.  For now, it is VERY Sssslow.  For starters, it has AVG 8.5 FREE installed.  I want to uninstall it and install avast to see if it remotely helps in speeding it up some.  Whoa!  I found out AVG 8.5 FREE is 61 Meg vs. avast's 32 or so Meg.

So, what is the absolute, can't miss, thorough AVG 8.5 FREE Uninstall sequence ... along with whatever Utility / Removal Tool?

Thanks, Vladimyr!  I wonder why they mention it's the "least option" to be used only when AVG Uninstallation has failed repeatedly?

I'm not even sure that tool works with avg8.5 as it was specific to avg8.

So would I then go the Control Panel Add / Remove Programs route?
Or would there probably be an AVG 8.5 FREE Uninstall Utility in the Start Button area?

Would that be the way to go?  Or at least to start there?

This should help:

Thanks, Bob!  I'll probably start with that Normal Uninstall and see how things go.

I'll bookmark that link.

You should have first tried the normal windows add remove programs to uninstall it. If that didn't work then you would have to look at other options.

It wouldn't hurt to try the avg uninstall tool, if it works great if not, possible an uninstall program like REVO Uninstaller freeware http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/revo-uninstaller/revouninstaller.html. I haven't a clue if it works with win98.

I already performed the Normal Uninstall and it worked.
I have avast Home Edition in there now.
It's working fine ... NOT slowing down things like AVG did.
Oh, and this computer from which I had to remove the AVG, the one someone gave me ... has Windows XP.  So, now that I believe I have it going well ... now I'm prepared for avast 5 ... no longer facing the obstacle of Win98 not being supported.

Might be a bit of a learning curve with XP Vs win98, but it really is much better.

I'm doing OK.  It's NOT exactly the same type of jump as say ... when I made the switch from MSDOS to Windows.  Now THAT's a jump!  ;D  I was lost back then.  Right now I'm definitely NOT lost with Windows XP.  It's sorta just a matter of getting used to where everything is without having to think about it.
