Hi
« on: June 01, 2009, 03:33:04 AM »
Just when i thought that Mbam(Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) is A GOOD anti-malware, it almost destroyed my PC.... :'(

It detected avast! files as malicious ones..(e.g. AhRuiNS.dll, aswMonDS.sys)

Crap..wats wrong with MBAM?

The heck, i uninstalled MBAM because of this...and also, i have lost my trust to it!

I just scanned my Avast folder with MBAM (2 day old database) then updated MBAM and scanned it again.
No malicious files found.
So that is weird.
Did you report the detection at the MBAM forum?

Interestingly, at same forum, there is a recent report of a rogue version of Avast.http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16385&hl=Avast

Surprisingly, you scanned the folder of avast! with MBAM and got nothing...strange...

I scan my system regularly with MBAM and it hasn't detected any avast files.

No security application is immune from false positive, so you have to exercise care, MBAM should have placed a copy in quarantine that you could have restored.

So even removing these files shouldn't 'destroy' your system if they were only avast ones. Interesting if MBAM was able to actually remove them as it should be protected by the self-defence module.

No, I don't know if MBAM thought your files were rogue or not.
Without reporting it at the MBAM forum, you probably won't ever know, either.

If there are rogue files in that folder (which I think unlikely) wouldn't you rather know about it?
I'd re-install MBAM, update it, try again. Might've been a one-off. But if you're still getting detections on those files, particularly when another user is not, that needs investigation.

Thanks all^^

Ill redownload, reinstall, and rescan my Pc with MBAM...*last chance mister* :)

@DavidR...
I didnt quarantine any of the avast! files that r detected as malicious ones...
I ignored MBAM and it froze, and then my PC froze... :'(
So, i uninstalled MBAM for this particular reason...
