Weird Happening in Firefox...
« on: June 19, 2009, 04:12:58 PM »
Just tried to right click, send link and now FF wants to open Outlook...

Found a new thing in Tools>Options>Applications called 'mailto'...  Set it to open OE (msimn.exe) but it doesn't open a window to send the link as it did...it just maximizes OE...  Maybe I got the wrong application...

Only thing that's happened lately is that there was Microsoft Update this morning...  Wonder if it screwed up something in FF?  :(

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...   :)

See image1, note it shows OE as my 'default' email client which is correct.

Firefox, should detect your Default email program, do you also have Outlook installed ?
If so then you need to set what is your 'Default' email client, that is usually done from within the email client, see image2.

By selecting msimn.exe which is the program, it will launch the program, rather than open an email window with that link in it.

These issues are related to Windows default programs and not with the browser itself.

Thank you both for your replies...  The problem appears to be solved...

First off; when that last M$ patch installed it reset my default mail handler to Outlook...  >:(  That's at the 'system' level.  I reset it to OE.  Yes David, I do have Outlook 'installed' but I've not used it so it's not set up...

Then I open Tools>Options in FF and now it showed "Use Outlook Express (default) which I selected and now things are back to normal...

Again; thank you for your help...  :) :) :)

You're welcome, don't you just love MS updates, changing your settings NOT.

Some of my friends have always used Outlook. But because I have never used Outlook, I usually take the option to keep it removed from desktop. I do this through Remove Windows Components in Add/Remove Programs. I don't know whether this would have helped.

That is an option I guess since I use OE and, sometimes, Thunderbird...  :)

Some of my clients swear the oath on Outlook, DavidR and ProgrammerGuy, notably the ones with SOHO on the line, so they must find something special with it. You would know better about why this is than I would. I just never got around to Outlook myself, and now I'm fully managed time-wise with what I have got.

And btw, I have never had issues with any internet mail services and avast. I leave at default settings, and not ever a ripple of trouble.

I think that it is for its integration with Office and the other functionality, contacts, etc. However for many this additional functionality simply isn't needed.

Definitely this. A big part of its appeal.
