file transfers with live messenger

I have tried to send a file via live messenger, a warning box popped up asking me to scan the file before I could send it.  I have two options, either install a free scanner from Windows or browse for third party scanner.  How do I point live messenger to Avast, I have browsed to programme files, Alwil Software, Avast4 and selected an icon saying ashAvast.exe is this correct or do I need to do something else?
