Cannot scan winstart.bat and autoexec.nt
« on: June 30, 2009, 12:16:11 AM »
Hello, this started recently. After a scan Avast! has shown a box saying:
Winstart.bat unable to scan the file is offline
same with autoexec.nt
Should I be worried? Thanks. I'm on windows vista home premium.

Does these files exist? The first one is suspicious...
Which are the path of them?

winstart.bat is located in C:\Windows\ but you need to turn off "hide protected system files" in folder options to see it.
Autoexec.nt is located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (running 64bit and same with the system files option) They both have x's over their icons.
I just made a system restore point and I have a bootable recovery CD- should I delete and see what happens?
EDIT: Here are pictures of them

Well, indeed will be better send the files to Chest than direct remove.
But, files that couldn't be scanned are just that. They're not infected.
Can you edit winstart.bat (Notepad) and check the commands listed there?

Tried that, just an empty file, but I'm not sure.
EDIT: How do I send files to the chest?
EDIT2:Should I just upload the files for you guys?
EDIT3:Finished scan moved both to chest, not in their directories anymore, thanks for all your help!

How do I send files to the chest?
Run avast, open Chest, Right click the area on the User folder and select Add.

Glad you're clean now.
