Hi,

I have Avast 4.8 Home Edition running on XP and ever since the last Avast update about a month or so ago, the icon on the taskbar that shows it's checking Outlook emails, begins to flash on and off every few seconds (as Outlook email is checking send/recieve). This makes the entire task bar flash and jitter, causing me headaches!

I set the option to hide the icon, but it didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Terry

Aren't you referring to the Internet Mail icon? If so, your computer should have get infected, specially if you're not using other email program than Outlook and your computer is sending emails... I suggest a full scan with avast and check if the avast Internet Mail provider had some activity.

Hi,
Thanks for your note.
No, it's not a virus causing this. The icon starts flashing in a jittery way as Outlook checks mail, even if no mail is being downloaded. It's not an alert; it's just the icon going on and off in the taskbar at the same time Outlook checks for email. I feel like I'm going to have a seizure from all this constant activity!

I've understood in first place... my doubt is if the icon is from Outlook or Internet Mail provider.
If it is from Outlook, just disable the extra icon in avast Outlook plugin settings.

I can't thank you enough.
You're welcome. If you want to help me, don't thank me, just sign up & use (sign up only is not enough) Mozy to get 2,200 Mb for free remote backup system. Enjoy its safety!

Hi,
I've been using Carbonite. But...does Mozy backup external drive data? Carbonite doesn't, so if Mozy does, I'll use it for that purpose. Let me know...

Does Mozy backup external drive data?
No, unfortunately, it does not detect removable drivers to make a backup of them.

Can't you copy and paste your files from the USB to a fixed disk, using the USB as a backup and allowing Mozy to backup them too?

I could probably try and figure that out, but I've already paid for Carbonite. Maybe when my account expires, I could switch to Mozy.
