RASWaitSeconds=300

Amazing... I'm absolutely shattered this is not a built in option freely available to the user.
The company I was at previously cancelled the purchase of Avast soley because of the startup delay causing havoc.
I too was about to dump Avast and look for something else until I accidently found this thread.

Well what this topic is about is delay avast start (and there is an option to do that), which is somewhat different to delaying the update check. This shouldn't be an issue for the greatest majority of avast users and in most cases they wouldn't know this was even possibly involved.

Personally I would like to see this 300 (5 minute) delay as the default, rather than the current delay of 30 seconds (I believe) so that it shouldn't even be an issue for the minority that do experience an issue.

Thank you, and yes now that I have the time (retired) I am finding Avast quite facinating :)
But when you are part of a larger contingency of Admins looking after 412 odd computers and having noobs complain all day long there just is no time to wade through a pile of configurations.

Yes DavidR, I agree with you 100% here, even 600 (10 minutes) or longer would be fine, but 30 seconds or I thought it was a minute, is just far far too short.

That is what I have mine set on but that is because I use dial-up and every time I connect avast would check for updates, when I just want to quickly go on-line and collect email, etc. I don't want avast to start an update check.

I agree. They could change the "default" value to a more convenient one.
