Hi MarliNY,

Glad to hear you got it registered.

I'd follow what Tarq57 said and post a HJT log.

As for the website, it seems clean (no alerts from avast) and they are in the process of rebuilding the site so I imagine they have managed to sort it out.

Update July 15, 2009: The CANTER website is in the process of being rebuilt.

If someone here has super anti virus protection...

You do...avast :)

NOTE:
As a side note in the future when you post a suspect link could you please modify it to de-activate it (i.e. change http to hXXP) to prevent others potentially becoming infected.

Thanks,

-Scott-

EDIT:Sorry I didn't see the other posts...man I need to pay attention ;)
and bad grammar ::)

I'm sorry- I've removed the link to the site in that post.

HijackThis will not install.

Asked suggestions- Malwarebytes scan (full or quick done in safe mode) or Avast full scan?

Can you search your computer (include hidden and system files) for MSVBVM60.DLL?
It should look like the picture. (I have right clicked it and selected "properties" to get that) and be in the Windows/system32 folder.

If not, try downloading and installing (from MS) the visual basic runtime.

Then try re-installing HijackThis.

Would it be fair to say your Windows is seriously out of date?

Something is stopping this from working.
What version of Windows (service pack) do you have, and is it up to date (updated every "patch tuesday")?

To find out the version, go to control panel>system. The info will be on the tab that opens.

Have to have a think about this. I'm thinking of trying another scanner, or maybe an online scan.

Yeah, need the service pack number.
The other item circled would be of use, too.

OK, look, I'll just make do without the RAM etc for now.
Couple of things to try.
Rename the HijackThis installer file, to something like "marliny.exe" and then see if it might install.

No luck? Time for a check disk. Right click the "C" drive of "my computer" in the start menu (if you have one listed there.) Select "properties" then "tools", "check now", tick both the checkboxes.

Restart. This might take an extra half hour or so for the check to run and the logon screen to come up. (I'll be in bed by the time it would be finishing, BTW. Others might well come and help.)
Following this try installing HijackThis again.

Other ideas: Download Cureit from the good DrWeb. This is a standalone virus/malware scanner/cleaner. No installation; it will run from the download location. (I suggest the desktop.) Run it immediately after downloading it. It can't be updated, so is really only good on the day it is downloaded.

Hope something here works. I'm admittedly not very expert, but reasonably proficient, and starting to run short of ideas.

BTW, is the computer regularly updated from MS Update? Can you visit the site? Really want to know this.
Can you view this page symptom-free? (Explanation on the page.)

Okay, just spoke w/my hub- the pc is updated frequently from Microsoft (security updates, service packs, etc.).

I was able to view the Conflicker site without problem, all the images were there (top box).

OK. Let me know if there is any result from running the check disk, or Cureit, or re-naming the Hijack This installer.

As an update:  Was able to run the CureIt program, it detected one issue and got deleted.

Overall- the pc is operating much better.  I am experiencing one problem-

When surfin' the net through Internet Explorer, anytime I need to log in (such as this forum/other forums/anywhere a login is required), the screen freezes-get the message 'not responding'.

I'm able to login through AOL, but is there some setting that needs to be tweaked/changed for using Internet Explorer that will allow me to log in when necessary?

Any help on this issue greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
