Shell extention fails Eicar test virus
« on: February 08, 2003, 02:59:39 AM »
Since I have only been running Avast as my main AV program for a few weeks I wanted to test all it's functions. Everything seemed to be working fine but when I tried to catch the Eicar test virus (zipped and unzipped) using Avast's Explorer Shell extention nothing happened the Shield gets it so does the Scanner why not the Shell extention??

Shell extension in currently available version does not test archives, for more info look at the end of follwoing thread: http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=15;start=0

Shell extension (its executable is named ashQuick.exe) should find EICAR file when you right click over it in Explorer and then select "Scan...". If not send me your EICAR file to svihalek@asw.cz, please..

Resident protection and all parts of avast! uses same detection routines so they should provide same results (depending on settings). There is no reason EICAR not to be detected by ashQuick with default settings...
