Kaspersky has a pretty good reputation. So does Avast. (Very good, in fact. You hardly ever read anything bad about Avast.)
Personally, I think Avast is likely to be at least as good as Kaspersky. Maybe better in some respects. Who knows?
Try it out and decide for yourself.
It is very difficult to make objective assessments of how good the really good AV's are, compared to each other. Even the testing sites get quite differing results.
Now if one of them was really bad, it would be an easy question to answer. :D
[edit] Welcome to the the forum, by the way  ;D

Of version 4? Which one you want to see?
Of version 5? Check avast blog: http://blog.avast.com/2009/07/20/avast-5-is-coming-soon/#more-354

What is push updates?
Push iAVS. It is a special kind of update. Sometimes, it might be very important to perform the update as soon as possible (e.g. when a new virus starts to spread heavily). With Push iAVS, it is possible to start the update remotely, on the request of ALWIL Software specialists. The request is done by a special e-mail message. avast!, checking the incoming e-mails, will recognize the message and automatically start the update.

I couldn't actually locate screenshots on the home page, sorry, but there is a good selection of them here and here. (Wilders security forum.)
There are skins available here.
The above is valid for the current version, 4.8.

I look this test, On-demand Comparative, here, http://www.av-comparatives.org/comparativesreviews/main-tests

Avast pro result total score %98.2.

I wondered, the free version provide the same success in this test?

I think so. The free version has the same detection and cleaning engine as the pro. (Unlike some of the other free versions of AV's, in which detection/cleaning ability can be part-crippled.

It's not available yet. The beta phase is programmed to August and the final release to October.

the free version is amazingly good. Been running it for about two years now and nothing to complain about. You could go for the paid version but, in my opinion, it doesn't add more to the efficiency in terms of protection against threats. Except for script blocking may be...other features, as far as I remember, available in the pro version are scheduled tasks...there are probably other things I forgot about.
As far as I'm concerned, going for the paid version only makes sense if you want to support Avast, which I'll probably do one of these days (yeah, shame on me I haven't done it yet).
The only thing I could complain about is the inability to get a boot scan running on 64 bit OS. Hope that will be fixed on upcoming Avast 5  ;)

edit: I guess the reason why I don't post so much in this forum is the software just runs fine. I've never had any real issue with it, apart from 1 or 2 false positives and that was solved very quickly with prompt updates from the team.
