Computer hangs on using context menu
« on: August 09, 2009, 05:23:56 PM »
My computer hangs on using context menu (whenever I press mouse right click). Everything else is working well in my OS. I have no problems in surfing the internet and downloading. I have scanned my computer with Malwarebytes Antimalware (Performed Quick Scan) and nothing has been found, it says no malicious items were detected. I cleaned my temporary files using CCleaner This Computer problem I am facing from few days only and unable to understand what to do.

Last week I have scanned my computer using MBAM, SAS and avast scanned the folders Windows, Programfiles and no malicious or infected items were detected, everything was working very well in my OS.

here is my HijackThis log file attached

Yes! it solved my Context Menu Problem.

It was due to recently installed software Snagit 9.1.2.304 - context menu - Snagit Shell Extension DLL. I disabled it.

One of the reasons I stayed with SnagIt 8. :) For my purposes, I didn't need all the extra functions in version 9.

That is interesting as I also have snagit, but 9.1.0 (build 206) and I wouldn't have guessed that this would have nothing to do with it. I have been chasing a similar issue explorer freezing when selecting multiple files and using the right click menu.

I had used shell explorer view and disabled a number of context menu shells of other context items, but no joy. So I will disable this and see if that resolves the problem, for me it wasn't a frequent issue and I have had snagit 9 for some time so we will have to see.

The Windows Update from Windows Update Website is not working on my computer, IE8 hangs whenever I visit the Windows Update Website, it was working two weeks ago when I updated my computer using Windows Update Website.

I think it may be due to Snagit 9.1.2.304
I disabled the following in ShellExView
1. Snagit Add-in for Internet Explorer
2. Snagit Browser Helper Object for Internet Explorer

Still after restarting my computer Windows Update Website hangs in IE8.

Now after uninstalling Snagit 9, Windows Update Website is working on my computer and I am able to update my computer with the latest security updates. I think Snagit9 is a new software designed for vista only and not for Windows xp.

I have been using it for ages on xp pro and no problems with windows update or the auto updates on patch Tuesday.

However I don't use IE8, it has some issues so I don#t know if this might be one. Try running IE8 in compatibility mode (IE7) if you encounter web site problems.
