Error 42127
« on: August 10, 2009, 01:56:18 PM »
Yesterday I did a boot scan and here is my aswBoot.txt:

11/26/2008 01:55
Scan of all local drives

Number of searched folders: 1774
Number of tested files: 24640
Number of infected files: 0

----------------------------------------
12/15/2008 12:37
Scan of all local drives

Number of searched folders: 5860
Number of tested files: 84625
Number of infected files: 0

----------------------------------------
08/09/2009 22:54
Scan of all local drives

File C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\driver.cab\kdh00001.ppd Error 42127 {CAB archive is corrupted.}
Number of searched folders: 6434
Number of tested files: 144984
Number of infected files: 0

As you can see, one file (a CAB archive) is corrupted. What does that mean? Could my hard disk be damaged? I hope not.

It is just reporting a file it couldn't scan.

- Corrupted Archive file, this could simply mean that avast is unable to unpack it to scan the contents of the archive and assuming it is because it is corrupt. Even if it were corrupt there is nothing that a user can do to resolve any corruption, short of replacing the file. This I wouldn't recommend (especially if this is for archives in the \System Volume Information folder, part of the system restore function) unless you are getting problems relating to that file outside of the avast scan.

See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=35347.msg297170#msg297170 this topic for more information on why files can't be scanned.

No, I don't have any problems with this file. I was just scarred for my hard disk. After the scan I copied the file on an other partition and tried to unpack (extract) it and it wouldn't, it does, but then stops at that corrupt file. As all is working OK, I think it has nothing to do with my hard disk. Thank you for explanation. :)
