avast! finding false virus
« on: May 27, 2004, 10:08:00 PM »
Last night after getting avast! it found a virus on my PC called w95:Matyas after doing a bit of searching I found out it was not even a virus.  It's when you use a free online scanner, avast! just thinks the file(s) are a virus.

http://www.techsupportforum.com/computer/topic/12964-1.html

"they are false positives because you have just used an online scan with housecall/panda or whatever

you can post a new hijackthis log if you want, but I've seen many reports of this recently

avast seems to be finding the virus signature inside the definitions that panda/housecall is using to scan for

apparently it's a fairly common problem with avast, because of it's heuristics, it gives a lot of false positive"

So shouldn't this be fixed, so avast! doesn't think files are viruses?  Just had a friend tell me "problem with freeware  ;)"

Well it can be only one and its called Panda. Sorry to say,but i don't know are their programmers retarded or what!? Havent they heard for any even the most simple encryption method to hide their definitions. Argh this really pi***s me off when such products mess with others just because they have lazy programmers.
Don't worry, avast! still rox and try to use HouseCall or RAV and Command instead of Pandas crap :)

Thanks, thats what it was.  I had Panda installed before going to avast!
it also found this virus called w32:kuang2 heard it was a password stealer but also heard that w95:matyas and w32:kuang2 were from Panda.

True?  If kuang2 isn't a panda deal should I be worried and do anything extra?

If these were found inside ActiveScan folder (in Windows\System32 dir),than its definitely Panda.

Yeah, it says kuang2 was found in "c:windows\system32\ActiveScan\imscan.dll"
