Getting rid of Win32:SalityU and AB
« on: August 17, 2009, 01:02:59 AM »
I have recently downloaded a demo of Avast and started a scan, after it was about 20% finished a box came up and said that the disk was full and could not except anymore files.  I have been sending everything to the chest.

My question is what happens if I delete all of the files in the chest.  Some of them look like they are registery files and might be important to the cont. running of the computer.  I have never used anything like this so am kind of new to this type of software.

If there are over 1000 infected files already found in only 20% of the scan, just not sure where to go from here. ???

What is your chest limit set to?  Normally, it's 256MB I believe.  You can always increase the size of the chest if needed, (as long as you have the hard drive space to accommodate it).

It's not smart to delete the files in the chest until you absolutely know that they aren't needed.

I'd increase the size of the chest, run the scan again, and send everything to the chest.  From there, you can do more research as to what's bad and what's not.

Bad news! It's game over for this machine. Win32:Sality is a polymorphic file infector that can't be cured without formatting and reinstalling Windows.

I do not know if this works or not but you might try a Sality remover developed by Grisoft. The worse that can happen is that some important system files might be removed causing a reformat to be needed which you might otherwise have to do anyway. The best that can happen is that it might cure your problem. You can download it from the link below.
