Should Malwarebytes Scan This Fast?
« on: August 18, 2009, 07:20:02 AM »
Hello. I noticed when I scan a quick scan with MBAM, it scans hundreds of registry keys a second, and in less than a minute, it's scanned 15k files. My PC is essentially a 1.4Ghz duo core with 3GB ram, but should it scan this fast? When my computer was infected before, my AVG scanned over 100k files in seconds. Is this speed of scanning normal?

Malwarebytes is a malware scanner and scans for known new malware that anti virus applications have not had updates for their definitions so the Quick scan only looks for locations that the new malware infects.

I hope you completely un-installed AVG before you installed avast! anti virus?

They are object that are scanned so many of those aren't actually files, but registry keys, so yes it is quite fast.

You can see when it starts to scan files as the objects scanned rate slows down on my system it had scanned 15k objects in the first 16 seconds and on completion it had scanned 89892 in 2minutes 2seconds. My system is a little quicker than yours.

I never really paid much attention to how much time is taken by each part of the MBAM scan -- I'll typically grab a book while scanning with that or SAS or avast.  But all together, an MBAM quick scan on my approx. 5 or 6 gigs takes about 5 minutes.
