Wireless speed slow
« on: August 19, 2009, 11:47:12 AM »
I installed Avast on my laptop.
Now its connection speed has dropped to 5 to 11Mps.
I did not have this problem when AVG was installed.
Can someone tell me if there is a fix for this.

AVG was completely removed using Revo Uninstaller.
Rebooted laptop and router.

Laptop Dell
Windows XP Home SP3
Avast Home 4.8 Free version
Avast Build 4.8.1351
Linksys WRT54G router
All are fully patched
Windows 10 Pro - Avast 18.4.2338 - Vivaldi 1.15.1147.xx

Does pausing or stopping Web Shield make any difference?

No that did change anything.

I might have found the problem.
Do not know why this made a difference but I changed the wireless channel from channel 1 to ch 10.
This seems to help for now.

Does not make sense.

Why would you have to do this when change a security software?

What about your neighbors? If they are using a wireless network, chances are, you are both using the same frequency, which would cause interference

It was fun when I moved into a newly built home and all the people installed the same motorized garage openers and they used the default setup of the sender and receivers.
All the doors would do an open and close dance as people left for work then again when arriving home from work.  ;D

Does stopping avast! completely solve the problem? Because if it doesn't, i highly doubt the problem is related to avast!.

Well Dell laptops (at least on mine) use a Broadcom software that has the ability to see who is using what.
I try to make sure that I am using a channel that either no one is using or if that can not be, I will use one that has a weak signal strength.

Signal strength did not move when Avast was turned off.
As I stated before it just seems strange that this occurred after I removed and the installed a security software.

I am getting a strong signal now.

So I will just see what happens later.
