Port filtering?
« on: October 07, 2009, 05:09:36 PM »
Is port 6667 blocked by Avast.? Can't seem to connect to IRC servers when it is running ,works OK when it is not . Can't seem to find the setting to disable.
TIA

avast isn't a firewall so no it doesn't block ports.

If there is an apparent blocking then that is likely to be a conflict between two security applications.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

What other security applications do you have installed ?

What is your firewall ?

That shouldn't have any impact unless it is the paid Pro option and even then it shouldn't really be an issue.

What about the other part of the question most likely to be an issue, have you ever had another AV installed on this system ?

What about the firewall question ?

Any information/help in the other topic Pondus posted ?

So am I, my problem is that I don't use IRC so can't try any tests.
You say you can't connect, what errors are you getting ?

You could try disabling specific shields to see if you can find what might be the one in conflict.

Start with pausing the Network Shield and see if that doesn't work try 'Terminating' the Web shield, those are the only two that have any internet facing interface.
