Network Console Won't Log In

Hello,

I am a brand new user...testing on a home based network.  Though most of your clients are from companies and corporations I am a home user and I wish to deploy this system on my home network.  For simple ease of use and ease of mainting the systems.

I can't however get the system to see the server.  Now, I have installed the Main file that the PDF said to do...however after that when the PDF says to input the server name to login (on the Console) it doesn't except anything and says there is either an error in communication or the system will not accept the login.

Please help...

You're right. It's a documentation error.

I thank you for your quick responds...however the system simply won't see the server.  My connection is over a wireless network, connected with all Linksys products.  The best in my opinion.

I tried typing in the IP address...to no unveil.  I also tried typing in the computers name.  As well as "avast" as the server name.  Still to no unveil...Finally I tried the "detect server" button...didn't work either

Perhaps, since it is on a local machine...meaing I am tring to logon using the machine that the server is installed it simply cannot to connect.  Is this true?

Please make sure that the "avast! Management Server" service is running on the server (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services).

Done...although it keeps stopping the service on me.

Still doesn't see the server when the service is started.

I think it must be something in my configuration....Is this possible?

Perhaps I should uninstall a reinstall from scratch.

Check the event log, Antivirus category. Any new entries (created when the service is starting)?

It gave me this message...

" Cannot connect ServerConnection socket, WinSock error 0x00000000 has occurred. "

What does this mean?

Also, I tried typing in the username and password within the service to logon as Administrator and with the default password.

Now the event log gives me the error...

"Installer information: Cannot initialize data source, error 0x80004005... "

What does this one mean??? ???

Do you use MSDE or a standalone MS SQL 2000 install?

OK and the server details were entered correctly during install...?
I mean servername/username/password?

Here is the log file from my install...It told me that is was able to start the Avast Server...because of an error...Hope it helps solve my problem.

Is GNGSLT the name of your (full) SQL server?

Then you need to specify GNGSLT to the SQL Server box, not GNGSLT\avast. Specifying GNGSLT\avast tells the installer to use SQL server instance called avast on the server GNGSLT which (obviously) does not exist...

In short, you can use any instance of any server but it needs to exist.


The exception is MSDE in which case the installer will create (install) the instance on its own...

BTW If I were you I'd maybe wait for the beta refresh that should be out during this week. The thing is, it will require complete reinstallation which may not be convenient...

Actually it helped a lot....it is finally up and running...with the new beta refresh...is there any more documentation on how to do a remote deployment to another system without actually sitting in front of it?

BTW, I have done some preliminary testing of the Scanner itself.  Quite impressive.  It found 2 viruses on my system that I didin't even know were there.   However, the repair function could use some work.  Apartently all of the files it was unable to clean...so, I had to delete them.  Though, I must say....they weren't even worth keeping anyhow :).  Well....what can I say....C'est la vie....

I will contiune to test the software from a home users point of view.  However it would be helpful to have a step by step instruction on how to do a remote deployment.  I haven't got the basics down yet.

Thanks again for all of your help VLK....don't know what I would do without your help....Perhaps delete the program and give up...

P.S. I think that the software interface for users it quite simplified, and is well layed out.
