Yes, there is, you need to disable the avast self-defense module:

1. Right click the 'a' blue icon on system tray.
2. Programs settings > Troubleshooting (tab)
3. Disable self defense module

But I think that when you update or repair avast installation, the change will be identified and the file will be restored to the original one.

I think the file will be kept there, i.e., the changed one.
Keep a backup of it elsewhere and change it when you upgrade the program.

Hi.
Sorry if it was listed somewhere because I didn't find it...

What are the member ranks on the forum, and how many posts are needed to reach them.
This is my 16th post, and I was still a Newbie with 15.

And what rank do I need in order to be able to personnalize my profile a bit more.

Regards,
François

Due to spammers, it will take you 20 posts to get that privilege.

And to write personal messages, too, have 20 posts to write?

I have installed 'avast! 4 Home' and everytime I try to open it, I get an error message stating: "unknown error message", "Application cannot load skin. Function usiGetSkin Failed". How can I fix this? I use windows Vista.

About the "usigetskin failed" issue, if the repair does not solve it:
You will have to register ACTSKIN4.OCX
Follow the instructions:

Select START > RUN...
Enter the following command:
If you have Windows NT or 2000:
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows 95, 98 or ME:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows XP/Vista:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows XP/Vista x64:
C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX

Press OK (or Enter).
A message saying that the file was successfully registered should appear...

For some reason, ActiveSkin (the 3rd party library avast uses for skinning) does not seem to be working on your system. As a workaround, we may disable skinning in avast - that should solve the problem.

To do that, open the file <avast>\data\avast4.ini, look up the [UserInterface] section, and add the following entry:
StartWithSkin=0

Hi! I want asked you if is possible to use Avast Home Edition 4.7 with Web Protection enabled and Online Armor Firewall Free together. I've read that this Avast's function is like a light firewall and so I shoul like to understand if is better disabled Web Protection having Armor or use both the utilities or use only Avast with Web Protection and any other firewall. Please excuse me for my English, I'm Italian and I can't write very well (I'm a disaster, I think...) Sorry...

And thank's, however.
