Odd Rootkit Being detected
« on: August 30, 2009, 12:59:25 AM »
I just installed avast! on my girlfriends laptop (I being a user and always recommending it to people). Well after she gets home I get a message from her stating that she got a rootkit named msnuncern.dll. Of course her dad being the kinda guy he is told her not to do anything with is cause its a rootkit and therefore in his mind important (he is constantly messing up her computer and me and my roommate are picking up the pieces). So I pose this question to you guys since I'm running out of options.

once again the name of the file that keeps popping up is msnuncern.dll.

Thanks for any responses!

Considering Google doesn't know anything about it, i'd say it's safe to eradicate (delete). For known files or very well known bad files, google always shows results. Not in your case. You can throw this file on VirusTotal for deeper inspection, bt i'd say avast! is detecting it correctly.
