hello
i regularly download the off-line version of definition updates and so far have been lucky.  but today....i have a problem

i checked the downloaded vpsupd file V 4.9.2009   090904-0
and it is the same size as i downloaded.

i copied to my off line computer and tried to install.
got error message:
error codes reported----
SI: 0x000000005
ST: 0x2000000B
LE: 0x00000000

can you tell me what i am doing wrong.

Windows file system error 00000005 (5) = Access is denied.

This may be because avast's files and registry entries etc are protected by the self-defence module, but I'm not sure that would be the case considering you have done this before. Try again having first disabled the self-defence module.

It could also be permissions based (UAC depending on your OS), so what is your OS ?
Is the account you are running the manual update from one with administrator privileges ?
