trojan too big for vault

hi,
A trojan has been downloaded onto my PC and Avast is saying that the virus vault is full. When I checked the statistics, it said that 1311 files was the maximum size but I have 3230 infected files. I can no longer access the internet on that PC.
Can anyone help me please?

Remove old files that were Chested or increase the Chest limit or, with the last virus found, delete the file.

You can adjust the size of the virus container in the avast! settings.
Run a boot time scan..!!

I had already increased the chest size to 'no limit' but it is still saying that it is full up. I have run a boot scan and it was unable to resolve all the problems. How do I empty the chest?

with over 3000 infected files it looks like the system is toast.....sound like a file infector

what are the malware names ?

It's VBS ExeDropper-gen. I am running Malwarebytes at the moment, it found 7 infected files originally which were put in the vault, then I ran Avast as it often picks up other things and that's when it all started to go wrong!

It's an Windows XP and the browser could have been IE or Google. Just looked into the virus vault in more detail and I've got the dreaded Ramnit so it's probably RIP and system restore.

Once you get your computer cleaned

1. Make sure that the OS is updated with all the MSFT updates including updating to XP3 if needed.
2. Make sure that Java is updated
3. Make sure that Adobe is updated.
4. Replace Adobe Reader with Foxit.
5. Download and use CCleaner every time you close your browser including scanning for and removing DNS Cache.
6. Since you can not use IE9 on XP I suggest to greatly improve your security going forward to replace IE8 or less whatever is currently on the computer with either Chrome or Firefox.
