Problems deploying (error 0x00000005)
« on: September 05, 2009, 02:22:57 PM »
Hello!

I'm using Avast Antivirus Professional and ADNM for a few weeks now and I'm very happy, that we have got it.
Now I got the problem, that I can't deploy the Antivirus Professional to a few Clients. About 40 Clients work properly, but about 10 Clients I can't deploy.
I always get the error "Failed(0x00000005)" - what could that be?
I can ping the client from the server where ADNM is installed and I can get onto \\pcname\c$. I checked the login data several times, and also copied the deployment task of the other pcs - but it doesn't work.
Log-Data:

Error 5 means access denied. Not enough access rights?
Sorry, I'm not an expert on ADNM version.

Hi!

Thanks for your answer. I know, that it is the "Access denied". I use the "administrator"-Account, so with that I have all rights I could have in the whole domain. I also checked, if there is a backslash and no slash between the domain and the user - so it should be OK.

What I found out:
- I cannot deploy to ANY computer in my network - it worked about a week ago, but know i have no chance to deploy a new pc any more.
- As I see in the log-file, the copying of files is ok, but the installation fails - whats the problem about this?

Greets,

Andi

Hi anm,

Your case it is same with me when i tried ADNM last week,

What you need to do :
1. Please check with your OS (server - clients) with this script : \\(pc name)\c$, whether you got notification to input user name and password for clients pc?
2. If yes, then you need to make sure whether at user name field, there is show "Guest" ?
3. If yes, you need to change your clients administrative tool with go to :
Start - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy - Local Policies - Security Options - Network access : Sharing and security model for local accounts - Then you need to choose Classic - local users authenticate as themselves

Then after that you back to do step 1 to make sure whether your clients access still show as Guest user name or not?

Then please try to push install

Hopefully my advice could help to solve you issues.

Hi! I've checked the login on \\(pc name)\c$ - I entered the "administrator" as user and the correct admin-password - and I have no troubles reading the harddisk. So there is no user Problem as yours was :-(

no, I'm asked for the user...

Sorry, it does not work at all. I do not know what it could be - because there was no change in the meanwhile...

Hi! I've checked the login on \\(pc name)\c$ - I entered the "administrator" as user and the correct admin-password - and I have no troubles reading the harddisk. So there is no user Problem as yours was :-(

My next reply : Just for sure you can copy you user's drive c: into your explore through DOS prompt then type : net use x: \\(computer name)\c$

2. If yes, then you need to make sure whether at user name field, there is show "Guest" ?
no, I'm asked for the user...

My next reply : What did i mean is when you type : \\(computer name)\c$ and then from client should be ask you to input user name and password like : User name : Guest\.......     and   Password : ........
But if you can access your client without face any issue, it should be work properly.

3. Ok that is good

Have you checked your client's desktop firewall?

Hi!

Today I tried again - and the problem has gone away...

I think I have a Problem with the Forward-Loopback-Zone of the Dynamic Name Service. There I get multiple entrys with the same IP and so on...

The problem I think is, because the PCs weren't startet for about 1 month, so we got problem with adress leases.

Hi Andi,

That is good if you finally found the trouble with your network and system,

Ok then success for you.

yeah that could be a problem in the  forward lookup zone in DNS... had the same problem some time ago, depending on how you look at the problem it could be classified as a bug or at least as a point of improvement with some extra checking from the AMS side....

i suggest btw that you configure your DNS server to scavenge stale records so old records get deleted automaticly after a week

hi wpn!

I already configured this option, after I've seen what happened. The only work I should do is, that I manually delete other older entries, because the "starvation" of entry is only used by entries made after setting this option.

Btw - I'm happy we bought Avast! - ADNM is really great!
