need help uninstalling avast 4.x home

Hi, I have previously installed avast home antivirus on my computer. But, when I tried to uninstall it using add/remove programs on window vista in safe mode at that time because I have problems with my computer before, avast home antivirus still stay on the my computer.Then I tried to remove avast by deleting manually the avast folders on safe mode. Then I did regedit delete everything regarding avast using regedit, however, when I try to reinstall avast, I get message errors on avast setup. What should I do in order to clean avast home antivirus so I can reinstall avast home antivirus again?thanks:)

In addition, I forget to tell I also tried aswclear.exe to uninstall avast, but I didn't know how to find alwil software folder, because I did delete alwil software folder already on safe mode before. I didn't put which folder on aswclear.exe to uninstall avast. However, it doesn't work to uninstall avast antivirus completely. I cannot reinstall avast. There's error on setup.

I would think it might be too late for a repair, with the Avast folder removed.
When you run aswClear.exe it should just run, not ask for a folder to process.
For future reference, one of the tricks to uninstalling Avast is to disable the self protection module first, otherwise it will prevent the removal. (Settings>troubleshooting)

Yes, I'm running as administrator. I have tried to repair it but I fail. I don't know what to do now to reinstall avast. Why avast is so difficult to be uninstall? when I tried to run aswclear.exe, there's a choice to browse the avast folder or running aswclear.exe without choose a folder where avast is installed. I did running aswclear.exe without choosing the avast folder because I did erasing the avast folder on the safe mode before. However, it fails to uninstall avast home antivirus. In hindsight it would have been better to ask here first, before commencing a manual uninstall.
Avast is not difficult to remove. You just need to know how.

It could also be related to the "some problems" you mention in your first post, could even be malware-related. (There is malware that will attempt to block the install of an antivirus.)

I think you need to finish off the manual uninstall. This will involve also showing all hidden and system files and folders, and doing a full search for "Avast" and "alwil"

Search the registry for "alwil".

I'm no expert at manual uninstalls. I've only had to do it twice, so certain caveats apply. That is, I don't always know for sure what is safe to delete.

The next step, if it was mine, would be to run some programs to check for malware.

Create a new temporary folder wherever you want.
Point the uninstaller to this new and empty folder.
Go ahead.

I just create a new folder which I give its name is Alwil software where avast was installed, even though, it's an empty folder. I tried to use aswclear.exe to uninstall avast antivirus, but it doesn't work either. I try to reinstall avast, it still has error on it. I did searching in the registry to find alwil and avast, I cannot find it. Unless, the one avast setup that I just downloaded from the web. I will try to check for malware too. Which software is the best for malware?malware byte?or other antivirus?
