on screen display never disappears

The display "On-Access Protection Control" comes up on top and never goes away.

I right click on tray icon and menu comes up with the words above on top. When I choose something the words stay there on screen (blue background, white words). Nothing clears it off....

hello, kja, and welcome to the forums...
do you mean after you access the menu you choose On-Access Protection Control, then nothing happens? it does not bring up the avast! on access scanner screen? what exactly is not going away?
Just a little more information, please?

Looks like it was a display driver bug. I upgraded device drivers and the display fault has not reoccurred.

The selections were working fine, but leaving this "line" on top of the screen. Anyway, has not happened again...
