Avast Home version and other antivirus programs
« on: September 15, 2009, 06:20:13 PM »
Can anyone tell me if the Avast home is a complete virus protection program? i mean does it protect my computer from hackers, spyware, etc. and does it also protect my email?

i recently downloaded Avast, but I also installed PC Tools - registry mechanic, Pc doctor - for my email account. I used to have McAfee for all this, but i have since deleted it.

I downloaded all of these at the same time as i installed avast. since then my computer just keeps shutting down and restarting, about 4 - 5 times a day.

I am hoping my problem is that i have too much on my computer, and that i can delete the PC Tools, and Pc doctor, and avast will be enough to protect me. I don't know if all the stuff i have is clashing with each other, and that's why it keeps shutting down.
if anyone has any answers, i'd love to hear them. I am not too computer literate, so bear with me.

Your post should have been in the avast 4.x home/Pro as this one is specifically for the WHS version of avast.

avast Home will protect what you ask and then some.

You will need to have uninstalled McAfee (not simply deleted it) or it could leave remnants that could conflict.

PC Tools firewall is fine with avast. the main thing is not to have another resident anti-virus program installed, anti-spyware doesn't conflict in the same way.

It would have been better to have sought help first before installing everything, etc.

- You didn't say which McAfee version, so here are the various tools:
- McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed. Or
2007 version -
