Camstudio safe?
« on: September 21, 2009, 01:58:50 AM »
I'm trying to make a few "Let's play" videos and well I couldn't really dig up much about Camstudio, if anyone knows if its safe or not that'd be great. Or if there was a safe way to record/capture my computer screen that'd be great.

Thanks

Edit: In General is Source forge a good freeware site? I'm not really letting my guard down, but I really don't know if there are good affordable products out there. Has anyone got any malware from Source forge?

Camstudio is a legit one. If possible, forget sourceforge and download it at cnet.com instead. I cant assure the security of sourceforge, but I heard that it has some piracywares that make it kinda dodgey.

I used these before: hypercam and camtasia. Both are not free. Trial/limited only.

yes, camtasia is a very flexible one yet, not free. hypercam, on the otherhand, is very limited and has watermark on free version. I cant find a reason why he dont like camstudio. Camstudio is as flexible as camtasia and way better than hypercam since hypercam is very lame when recording.

I just have to say, Sourceforge is a great site.  Lots of open-source programs.  I haven't had a single problem, and have downloaded software from them for years.

VirtualDub is an awesome program.
For generic computer (not avast) problems, you can also visit my forum for help: http://www.jacobytech.net/forum

Haven't used it much myself, but you can download a portable version from here if you wanted to test  it:
http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/virtualdub_portable

This version installs to one folder, not actually on the machine, making it easier to uninstall - just delte the folder when you want to uninstall - great for testing it :)

One of the many benifits to OSS ;D
(incidently this is hosted on SF too ;))
