Script Blocker in Avast!
« on: September 23, 2009, 06:00:43 PM »
Just a few questions:
How does it work?
What does it do?

Is it only effective with Internet Explorer?

Can Script Blocker protection be added to other web-browsers?

Will this be in the free version of avast! 5?

Thanks in advance.

It currently works in three browsers, IE, Mozilla (not firefox) and Netscape. However, with IE7 and above in Vista it doesn't work because of the way IE works in protected mode. So it is somewhat limited in that area, but it also has a use on your system not just the web.

At one point it was considered to drop it, but I think that has passed and will continue in the Pro version I can't recall from all of the posts in the beta sub-forum if it is possibly going to be in the avast antivirus free 5.0, you will have to do some digging there.

Script Shield will only be available avast! Pro antivirus and avast! Internet Security, i.e., not in the free version.

The help file with avast 4.8 is one that covers all functions of both the home/Pro version. Should a Home version user wish to upgrade to the Pro version, inputting the Pro license key upgrades the home version, so all functionality is effectively there, so the help files needs to reflect that.
