How can that be when Avast passed more and failed less?  Unless I'm missing something, it smells and sounds pretty fishy to me.

I'm an AVG 7 user and I think that VB tests can be totally misleading. Most people who view the tests only check to see if an AV passes or fails and do not read the reviews (not talking about anyone on the board) or check other avalible AV test sites.

As to your question, of why AVG passed.... It might be due to VB testing version 7 of AVG and not 6. From what I understand AVG has made serveral improvements to their scanning engine(just a thought).  Anywho, reguardless of what people sayI believe that Avast is a very good AV and would recommend it to anyone.

Namor, wellcome.
Thanks for your posting. I did use AVG and I agree with your guesses. Maybe someone could confirm them.
I believe in avast too  ;D

I agree, avast! is a very good anti virus.  It's a lot better then most people make it out to be, and it just keeps getting better with each new update.   :)

Avast! is waaaay better than AVG.
Had many virus infestations with AVG-   NONE with Avast!
Tried panda before avast- it took a lot of resources.
Seems avast is easier on my system than panda.
McAfee took over my computer and Norton,well......
It was very hard to get rid of ::)
I think what matters is that down here in the trenches Avast! is 110% better than the rest.

I seem to have had good results with AVG 7 I didn't really like ver 6 all that much. I agree with you though, Panda felt awkward and chucky to me.. and it's expensive. It's nice that people have FREE options to choose from.  ;D

AVG6 is ugly (i mean who uses 16 colors in Windows XP?! LOL) and very outdated in terms of efficiency. AVG7 looks much better, but i have bad experience with it since it simply died after first update. Don't know why heh

RejZoR, did you install AVG7 in the same computer of avast?
For me, the same you described... AVG works and after the first update it crashes...
Vlk usually says that they are compatible applications  :-\

Nope it was not this. I use my External Control to perfectly disable avast!,then i disable startup keys with System mechanic and Set both services to Disabled state. If you put it this way, avast! won't conflict with anything.

RejZor, I'll try again...  :-\
But, after the installation, can I enable avast with AVG 7 installed?

I hear ya, kinda caveman looking.

hmmm. I had the same problem, but with AVG 6... It didn't play nice with Avast if I remember correctly.

As I said in another post, I looked at AVG 7 Free last night.  Main thing I noticed was "NO Tech Support" for it.  Why use a free anti virus that offers no tech support when you can use avast! Home and get tech support?   ;D

That would appear not to be the only restriction, see extract from their download page below.

From what I can see the free version is still AVG 6.

The AVG 7 is a trial download which you will have to pay for or uninstall after trial period.

Well David, this is Grisoft's policy at the begginning of the version 7.0
Since then, nothing has changed...  :-\
