Adware Wyyo?
« on: October 01, 2009, 11:15:51 PM »
the other day I ran McAfee and it picked up on 5 files, all for Adware-Wyyo (spyware? virus?)
3 of the files were in a folder I was able to go and delete, because I tried to through McAfee and it couldn't do it.
I ran Anti-Malware and more came up in the volume and it was able to delete it, but there are still 2 things coming up in McAfee that I can't get rid of!
It says its in:
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\ODAJCD6Z\upgrade[1].cab
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0X6BKPI7\upgrade[1].cab

I've deleted my temporary internet files, cookies, history, and restarted my computer numerous times.
Everytime I try to remove it from McAfee, it tells me it cannot be completely removed:
Quote
McAfee has attempted to disable this program, but parts of it cannot be removed. In most cases, this program will no longer run. If you restart and rescan your computer and the same program is detected again, you can send it to McAfee Avert Labs for analysis.

I opened Windows Explorer to open the folder to try and delete it myself, but there is no such folder as LocalService

It's undetected on Avast, Anti-Malware, and Lavasoft Adware.
I did a search for files/folders (including hidden ones) that was called LocalService, *.cab, upgrade
The files still never came up
Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks!

Are you running Avast and McAfee at the same time?

Hi ablueskywaiting

If you do not have what pondus is suggesting and conflicting resident av solutions are flagging each other's signatures, then here is the technical analysis of this malware: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_156819.htm
and details here: http://www.prevx.com/filenames/X1532889751981303385-X1/WYYO.DLL.html
Download SAS from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
Update and perform a full scan,

As Pondus sez: You must remove the other resident scanner, even if it is disabled.
Shouldn't (and often, can't) run more than one on the same computer.

Is the "Anti-Malware" you refer to This one?
If so, it is streets ahead of AdAware, in detection and cleaning.
If not, download the one above.

Personally I'd get rid of AdAware (oh, that's right, I did. ;D) and just go with MBAM, Spybot, maybe SAS and/or Asquared for demand scanning.

It's not necessary to uninstall AdAware; that's your choice.
If it gives no problems you can tell, and you are comfortable using it, keep it. (It gave me problems, s'why I removed it.)

But it is necessary to uninstall the AV you don't mind loosing, use the McAfee removal tool linked above, after removing it via the control panel.
