Please help with viruses
« on: October 03, 2009, 10:55:37 PM »
I have 4 viruses in my virus chest. I have re-scanned them all and they still come up as a virus. Should i just leave them alone and do nothing? Or...?

Here are the names:

I have 2 of these: Win32:Adware-gen [Adw]
HTML:IFrame-HG [Trj]
HTML:Iframe-inf

How long have they been there ?

What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast 'a' icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections. C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashLogV.exe

- Or check the source file using notepad C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Warning.log and copy and paste the entry.

The first 2 were found in: C:\Program Files\Fast Browser Search
The 3rd and 4th were found in: C:\Users\blondie\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files

Im not sure of how long the have been in the Virus Chest, BUT this is what it says:
First one: 'Last Changed' 8-25-2009 and 'Transfer Time' 9-27-09
2nd one: 'Last Changed' 8-25-2009 and 'Transfer Time' 9-28-2009
3rd one: 'Last Changed' 6-5-2009 and 'Transfer Time' 6-5-2009
4th one: 'Last Changed' 5-27-2009 and 'Transfer Time' 5-27-2009

Files into Chest are safe to be kept there.
If in a week or two your computer is running fine and the files continue to be marked as infected, you can delete them.
Maybe scanning at boot time could check if everything is fine in your computer.

A boot scan is a way to let Avast scan for difficult to remove malware as it occurs before the operating system is fully loaded. Malware that might otherwise be "unable to be removed" (the file is in use or locked) can often be removed this way.
The instructions on how are in the link.
Allow an hour or more, depending on the size of your filesystem.
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.
