Avast Daemon Died
« on: October 06, 2009, 11:01:37 AM »
Apologies if this has been mentioned and resolved already in this forum but the posts I found appeared to talk about a VPS version that is older than what I am currently using (my VPS is 091005-0)

My issue is that I have Avast set to scan my home folder but it never completes the task. The message "Daemon died. The file scan daemon died scanning path /Users/pahu of 1 paths (0 remains). Do you want to scan again when the daemon is relaunched?" If I relaunch and scan again it still fails at some point.

I also get a an Apple crash report, part of which is copied below (I can supply the full report if needed)

Process:         com.avast.MacAvast.MAD [674]
Path:            /Applications/avast!.app/Contents/Resources/com.avast.MacAvast.MAD
Identifier:      com.avast.MacAvast.MAD
Version:         ??? (???)
Code Type:       X86 (Native)
Parent Process:  avast! [655]

Date/Time:       2009-10-06 19:28:43.840 +1100
OS Version:      Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30)
Report Version:  6
Anonymous UUID:  D5CE4747-39AC-44B2-A5E1-C48F80F8276C

Exception Type:  EXC_CRASH (SIGILL)
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread:  0

Thread 0 Crashed:
0   libSystem.B.dylib                0x9582f3ca select$DARWIN_EXTSN$NOCANCEL + 10

3   com.avast.MacAvast.MAD           0x00001a59 0x1000 + 2649

I am using Version 2.74R0 (ServiceKit 1.41) and today I purchased the application thinking that the trial may have been a contributor to the crash. But alas the licensed version still has the same symptom.

Regards,

Paul

Hallo,
nope, we don't crash conditionally. But, try the newer daemon (available hele - the first sticky post).

Thank you very much. The 0.82-beta resolved the daemon crash.

Hallo, the really latest one is here, ready for the new version (which is stuck in beta-state, waiting for our 3rd party to do some minor fixes):

http://public.avast.com/~cimbal/ad.zip

of course, its parts for incremental update will be of, when used in this older gui-encapsulation.
