Strange problems with avast! 4.1 Pro
« on: June 05, 2004, 06:52:02 PM »
I came up with some strange problems in avast! 4.1 Pro.
I cannot change any settings under tasks,i cannot change explorer extension settings and god knows what else.
Settings (checkmarks and so on) do stay where i set them, but there is no effect. I set that it should first repair and if it fails than into chest, but i still get popup warning. I set to scan all packers and eicar is not detected in zip.
All these used to work before without a problem ???
And i have clean windows install now!?
I already fully reinstalled avast!,but no success,NOD32 was perfectly cleaned.

Are the settings persisted even if you reboot? I mean your customized settings, of course.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

Settings persist, but they seem to have no effect. I reinstalled three times and after each uninstall i also used avast! Unistall utility to clean remaining things. I also changed that ODBC to XML in avast4.ini for any case. Hope its not related to NOD32 crashing that i encountered before arg :(

And switching to xml storage had no effect either?

Nope. I checked the Event logs again and this error was there several times. Check the attached image...

Looks like ODBC problem heh...
In the mean time i'm using avast! Home Edition which seems to work fine since there is no enhanced features ;)

OK, what you could do is uninstall avast, delete the avast4 ODBC data source in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources, and reinstall it. That should (theoretically) do the trick...

Huh i reinstalled avast! 4 times with no success. Then i was playing with settings a bit and all the sudden Explorer extension gets saved.  :) For Standard Shield settings i made a copy of task and its working now too. Looks like that your advice helped ;D
Thanks!
