avast 4.8 home

seems 2 have stopped working and i cant scan.i can update.cant use any other software like spybot as they have stopped working 2.any ideas?
ive used removal tool and reinstalled but made no difference

 I'm searching for an answer to a problem that sounds similar.  I can't access scanning (HP Director) programs.  I'm not a wiz at these things!  I look forward to someones input.
Avast has worked great except for this one thing.

TbonenodT, problems seems unrelated. Maybe you can start a new thread for you.
kirstym49, can you schedule a boot time scanning with avast? Any other antivirus or security program installed in the computer?
